Why I chose the South Carolina Honors College
I wanted to go on a four year adventure away from home for college, but I was nervous I would be lost in a big school. When I visited USC, I went to an Honors Information Session and saw how the Honors College looked out for their students and truly created a community away from home. They showed me that, even though I would be far from home, I would make my new family here. Plus, there were so many opportunities with the State House being close by.
My advice for prospective students: Either the fear or the opportunity will go away. Whether you have any doubt about living far away or getting involved on campus, it's a great reminder to not let fear stop you from all the good things college will bring. There are so many doors that you don't even know exist, so take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way.
Favorite question during an information session: How is living in the Honors Residence Hall?
It is truly an incredible experience! I have met my best friends from living with
such talented, involved and welcoming people. I would come home from class to all
of my friends in the common room together. Whether we were watching a movie, going
on day trips or baking in the kitchen, I always felt like I was exactly where I was
supposed to be.
Favorite Honors bucket list item or experience: With the Honors Eats program, you get to explore different restaurants around Columbia. Not only did I meet a new friends, but I ended up connecting with a director of the Honors College who introduced the career path I now hope to pursue.
