Cancellations and Refunds

Review your contract and all information about cancelling your contract. Cancellation terms will depend on the time of semester and whether you're an incoming or current student.

SPECIAL NOTICE: 650 Lincoln/Park Place 2025/2026

Please note that 650 Lincoln (all buildings) and Park Place require a full academic year (9-month) lease starting Fall 2025.  Students will not be allowed to cancel or be released from contracts for these buildings for the spring semester.

 

  • Remember that freshmen are required to live on campus for a full academic year.
  • Review the terms and conditions of your university housing contract and the dates for your student status and semester.  A copy of this contract can be obtained by contacting the main University Housing offices.
  • Know that we will not give any refunds in the last six weeks of a semester.
  • After the first day of class, you are required to pay the entire academic year’s rent unless you fail to enroll. If you fail to enroll, you must pay a cancellation fee of $500. 

New Student: Any first-year, transfer, or graduate student enrolling at USC for the first time who has signed a housing contract and selected a room.

New Student Cancellation Schedule

Continuing Student: Any student who has previously been enrolled at USC regardless of on-campus housing history, who has signed a housing contract and selected a room.

Spring-Only Student Cancellation Schedule

Students wishing to seek a contract release without penalty must provide proof of a change of circumstances that has occurred after the contract was originally signed. Documentation must be provided directly to University Housing. Requests will be handled by a review committee comprised of members of the Division of Student Affairs.

Examples include: medical needs or financial hardship.

  • If you withdraw from school or receive a contract release for any extreme circumstance, you are required to pay your assigned prorated rent.
  • Students no longer enrolled at USC will not be charged for cancellation penalties.
  • No Show/Fail to Claim Space: Students who fail to cancel their housing contract with University Housing, but remain enrolled in classes at USC, are subject to full rent charges and will be billed for the fall semester.
  • Lowest Priced Rent Option: Rent prices based on approved rent rates from the Board of Trustees for the applicable academic year as posted on the housing website.
  • These property contracts are mandatory 9-month leases. There will be no refunds for cancellations and rent rates will be billed for both semesters.
  • Students planning to leave for the spring semester to study abroad or participate in an internship or co-op experience should ensure that they do not choose a space in 650 Lincoln or Park Place.
  • Any student who selects a space in 650 Lincoln or Park Place for the fall will be required to pay full spring rent for their assigned space.
  • Students planning to leave for the spring semester to study abroad or participate in an internship or co-op experience should ensure that they do not choose a space in 650 Lincoln or Park Place.
  • Students who reside in buildings that are not scheduled to be fall only, will be billed for the fall semester and will not have a spring penalty.
  • Any student who selects a space in 650 Lincoln or Park Place for the fall will be required to pay full spring rent for their assigned space.

Refunds: There will be no refund of University Housing monies during the last six weeks of a semester. 

Transfer of Contracts: Residence hall contracts are not transferrable to the Greek Village or 650 Lincoln (A University Partnership). 

Removal From Campus: If you are removed from campus by Student Conduct, you will not be eligible for a refund.

Students Activated for Military Service: If you're activated for full-time service during the semester, the university follows state law Section 59-101-395. If a student has an overdue balance, the refund will be applied to the balance due.

Collections

If you're charged any collection fees for unpaid housing charges, you will responsible for those collection fees in addition to your unpaid housing charges.
