AI at South Carolina

From infrastructure and commerce to research and education, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rewriting what’s possible for our state and world. At the University of South Carolina, we believe the ethics and responsibility of the shift are equal to the opportunities they power.


That’s why we've made a university-wide commitment to provide our campus community with the guidance, tools, training and resources needed to use AI thoughtfully, securely and effectively. Providing a framework for integrating AI with confidence, integrity and purpose as students, current and future professionals, and community leaders.

  • Future Ready

    At USC, AI is a tool to for learning. Students use Cocky Scholars, an AI study partner, to understand material and build stronger study habits. Student fellows explore ways AI can improve courses, support research and enhance learning, not replace it. Student AI leaders have a voice in campus policies and develop programming to help students understand ethical AI use that can shape the future.

In the Loop

AI engages, inspires and prepares students. Assignments highlight AI’s strengths and limitations to ready students for AI-powered workplaces. Students are in the loop learning to control AI, build tools, uncover efficiencies and support critical thinking.

Inspired Research

USC’s annual ASPIRE AI grant program prioritizes interdisciplinary teams that use AI and subject-matter expertise to find solutions and create new opportunities. In 2026, 31 grants were awarded to 21 faculty members across 10 system colleges and campuses.
